Here at James A. Coleman Learning Day Care, we know that quality childcare is hard to find. Many families struggle to find a provider, so much so that once they’ve finally found one, they often don’t want to even think about going through that whole process again. However, we also know that you care about your children’s wellbeing, and we are here to tell you that it is sometimes necessary to change child care providers to ensure that they are being well cared for. In this article, we’ll go over three warning signs that you need a new child care provider.
- Too Many Children Per Adult- One sign that your current child care provider is not up to the task is a high ratio of children to adults in the facility. The state of North Carolina requires childcare facilities to have one adult staff member per every five children aged 0-12 months, and one per every six children aged 13-24 months. In addition to these specific requirements, it’s also better for children of any age to have plenty of adult support, so if your current child care provider seems stretched thin between all of their charges, it’s best to look for an alternate one.
- Poor Security- Another sign that you should find a new child care provider is poor security. Your child will be spending a significant amount of time at this facility, so you need to make sure that it is safe from intruders or forced entry. If the staff is lax about security issues, it’s time to move to another facility.
- Undocumented Injuries- Lastly, if your child comes home with a cut or scrape that the child care provider did not document or tell you about, you should look for a new one. Our team, like all good child care providers, takes accidents and injuries extremely seriously, and we have well defined procedures for informing the children’s guardians of what occurred.
