Here at James A. Coleman Learning Day Care, we know that you want what’s best for your child. When you need to hire someone else to look after your child while you are at work, you will naturally want to make sure that you have found the right person for the job. Our team has extensive experience in childcare, and in this article, we’ll go over three essential qualities that you should look for in a child caregiver.
- Respect- One essential quality in a child caregiver is respect–respect for you and your wishes as the child’s parent or guardian, and respect for the child as an individual. Our team believes in treating all of our charges with dignity and communicating with them in a way that affirms their autonomy and ability to learn, while also being age appropriate.
- Patience- Another key quality that a good child caregiver needs is patience. Children, after all, have not yet developed the full range of abilities that adults have–their motor skills are not fully developed, for example, and they aren’t able to regulate their emotions yet–and therefore interacting with them requires a high degree of understanding.
Self-Control- Related to the above point, a good child caregiver also needs to have great self-control. Children take their emotional cues from the adults around them, so a caregiver needs to be able to remain calm in the face of chaos to calm the children down as well. Our team has worked with children of all ages for many years, and we know exactly how to keep our own emotions under wraps so that we can soothe upset kids.
